Tik Tok Filter

Artist Statement

This project was a challenging yet playful dip into the realm of Blender and TikTok filter creation. By experimenting with my limited ability in Blender, I was able to develop two similar yet distinct visual experiences that aim to engage users in playful engagement on TikTok.

My first filter introduces a whimsical exaggeration of reality by overlaying users' faces with large, bulging eyeballs modeled (or "skinned") after anatomically correct eyeballs, rather than cartoon ones. This distortion of facial features is not only a fun filter for TikTok users to use to distort their face, but can also serve as lighthearted commentary on the influence of digital media on self-perception, prompting viewers to reflect on the malleability of online personas.

The second filter features a single large eyeball, skinned in the same fashion, replacing the user's entire head. This surreal transformation invites contemplation on the significance of vision as a primary means of understanding the world and challenges established norms of individuality. As users interact with these filters, I hope to spark moments of introspection, prompting consideration of the transformative potential inherent in digital art, while also having fun on TikTok!
