A few weeks ago I visited Las Vegas, Nevada and was lucky enough to be staying in a hotel room with a direct view of The Sphere. I have been borderline enamored with The Sphere since it was unveiled, and seeing it in person, even if just from the outside, had been on my bucket list. The weekend I was there was the F1 Race weekend, so the majority if not all of the images illuminated by the sphere were advertisements. However, some of these advertisements were unlike any ads I was used to seeing. Many of them truly took advantage of the massive and spherical nature of The Sphere, especially at night when the unlit portion could blend in with the night sky. This led me to think about how advertising, art, architecture, and technology can come together to create unique opportunities for innovation while being able to monetarily benefit from the creation of art and distribution of that art to a massive number of people. Through the integration of cutting-edge technology, artists can utilize The Sphere as a three-dimensional canvas. Augmented reality experiences, interactive installations, and dynamic visual narratives can create a symbiotic relationship between The Sphere and the digital realm. The Las Vegas Sphere not only stands as a testament to the city's commitment to innovation but also serves as a beacon for the transformative power of digital art, and how that can be given a space to live in in a world where everything needs to make money to survive.
